SSI OVERVIEW

SSI is a federal entitlement program which provides a safety net for disabled and elderly persons. Although the rules in determining disability are the same, as the rules for Social Security disability insurance benefits, and the program is administered by the Social Security Administration, the funds are not paid from the Social Security trust funds.
